Experimenting with Jaime Vives Piquere's POV-Ray Tierra Project. These renders take hours and hours.

Another POV-Ray Tierra.

Dawn near Mt. Baker (Terragen)
Using 3DEM, I was able to convert a USGS Digital Elevation Map (DEM) into a Terragen terrain file.

One of my first attempts with a new version of Terragen that permitted transparent water. Unfortunately, the program crashed before I could save the scene parameters.  :-(
Mt. Spickard. Another DEM-based image. (Terragen)
Falls and Rapids. (Terragen)
Using Paint Shop Pro, I manually added trees, rocks, rain, and the waterfall. The water texture is from Terragen, using the WaterWorks plugin.
Simple Night Scene. (Terragen)
The trees were painted using DigArts Jungle 2D.
Serene Dawn. (Terragen)
The following images used Digital Elevation Maps (DEMs) of the Grand Canyon. Some of these images use a modified surface map based on Michael Smith's "Canyon Snow."  Some of these images use a modified atmosphere created by Peter Kleiner

Another Grand Canyon DEM scene. (Terragen)
Angry River (Terragen)
I spent days and days tweaking the lighting in this image to get it just right. The water texture was achieved by using extreme settings in the water parameters.
Misty Cliffs (Terragen)
A close up of the upper left corner of Angry River.
Tall Canyon (Terragen)

Watery Canyon (Terragen)
Planet added in with Paint Shop Pro.
