Reading Table

The Reading Table was an attempt to create a realistic render. I started with objects that I already had, put them together and played with the lighting.

The lamp, table, books, and paper pad are from the Library.
As I often do, I play around with different camera angles, in this case, zooming out to get a wider look. The clock and globe are from the Den.
Next, I decided to do the rest of the room in the day. Here's where the project turned into a daylight radiosity project spanning about five months. The computer, keyboard, and office chair are from the Den. The bookshelves are from the Library.
Next, I added a human to give the room some more personality. I also added some clutter to make things a bit more realistic. The books on the bookshelf are a bit more messy. Note that all books tilt to the right :-)

The lighting for this scene took the most time to experiment. Each render was taking about 18 hours to do. Slow progress.

Note the mouse is just a clipped torus!

I didn't notice till now that the two smaller prints on the wall are of the same photograph!

I really like the radiosity effect on this scene. Some parts are too bright still.

A remake of the M.C. Escher's famous Hand with Reflecting Sphere.  The reading room seemed to be the perfect environment in which to place him. I changed the floor pattern to make this a true RSOCP* scene. It took a lot of trial and error to get the camera in just the right spot. Hmmm... what's that on the computer monitor

A zoom out of the above image. Here we can clearly see Escher is using POV-Ray!
